The MITS Public Online Seminar, taking place on October 5th from 9:45 AM to 13:00 PM, will focus on deaf persons in conflict zones and humanitarian crises, with particular emphasis on the role of sign language interpreters in these contexts.
Two expert speakers, Peninnah Vulimu and Herbert Klein, will present their fieldwork experiences.
Peninnah Vulimu, Disaster Risk Reduction Officer at the World Federation of the Deaf, will present ‘Emergency Situations and Deaf People in Gaza – Barriers and Recommendations’, focusing on the challenges faced by Deaf people in war zones and the necessary support actions.
Herbert Klein, a Deaf mental health advisor, will discuss his work in Indonesia on the ‘Deaf Indonesian Project’, including live interviews with Deaf individuals from the country.
The seminar will be introduced by Miriam Grottanelli de Santi, President of MPDFonlus, and moderated by Dr. Maya de Wit, Director of the MITS Master’s Program.
Deaf persons, interpreters, translators, researchers, and anyone interested in learning more about deaf persons in conflict zones and humanitarian crises are invited to register and attend the seminar.
